Man charged in 2019 Coquitlam soccer player murder
6 years after a soccer player was killed a Port Coquitlam man was arrested on December 19, 2025, nearly six years after the body of a decorated Coquitlam soccer player was found, an arrest that police say highlights the patience required for complex homicide investigations.
Alan Mohammed Taheri, 31, was taken into custody by the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. The BC Prosecution Service has since approved one count of second-degree murder with a firearm and one count of indignity to human remains against him. The victim was 24-year-old Edi Bogere, who was last seen leaving his Coquitlam home on the evening of December 27, 2019. His body was discovered on a vacant, forested property in Maple Ridge on January 11, 2020. At the time, his death was deemed suspicious by the Ridge Meadows Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
The investigation was a combined effort involving the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, Ridge Meadows and Coquitlam Royal Canadian Mounted Police, and the Integrated Forensic Identification Service. Investigators stated early on that they did not believe the killing was random or linked to gang conflict. Police have now indicated that Taheri was known to them and had previous firearms offenses, but details on how he and Bogere knew each other have not been released as the matter is before the courts. A court appearance for Taheri is scheduled for January 12, 2026.
Bogere was a talented soccer player with Coquitlam's Sparta SC U-18 team, which won a Canadian National Championship. He was described by friends as a gentle soul and someone who avoided trouble. The investigation into his death was a years-long process, which the officer in charge of the homicide team noted is common for such complex cases.
