Coquitlam Express hires ex-NHLer Martin Jones as goalie coach.

The Coquitlam Express of the British Columbia Hockey League hired former National Hockey League goaltender Martin Jones as the team's new goaltending coach, a move announced on November 28, 2025, that brings extensive professional experience to the junior hockey club following the dismissal of its previous coach. Jones's role will involve overseeing all areas of goaltender development for the team. His hiring comes after the Express terminated the employment of its former director of goaltending, Ronald Veit, in October.

Veit, a 58-year-old Surrey resident, was charged with sexual interference, sexual exploitation, and sexual assault. The alleged incidents occurred between September 2008 and May 2012 in several Metro Vancouver communities, including Coquitlam. The team stated that it ended its relationship with Veit immediately upon learning of the charges, which are not related to his time with the organization. Veit was released from custody with several conditions, including not being in contact with anyone under 18 without a parent or guardian present, though he is permitted to continue coaching at skating rinks in the presence of other adults.

Jones, a North Vancouver native, recently concluded an 11-year career in the National Hockey League. He played in 466 games with teams including the Los Angeles Kings, San Jose Sharks, Philadelphia Flyers, Seattle Kraken, and Toronto Maple Leafs. In 2014, Jones was a member of the Los Angeles Kings when they won the Stanley Cup. Two years later, he was the starting goaltender for the San Jose Sharks, leading them to their first Stanley Cup Final appearance, where they were defeated by the Pittsburgh Penguins. Jones was also selected for the National Hockey League All-Star game in 2017. Internationally, he represented Canada and won a silver medal at the 2010 World Junior Championships and a gold medal at the 2015 World Championships.

The Coquitlam Express currently holds first place in the Coastal East division standings. However, the team has recently experienced a four-game losing streak. Their most recent games were losses to the Brooks Bandits, with a score of 4-3 in overtime, and the Okotoks Oilers, with a score of 5-3. The team's next game is scheduled for December 5th against the Powell River Kings at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex.
